Campaign of the Month: November 2010
Cthulhu Supremus Est
Roll up multiple characters (at least 2). One will be your main character. The other will be a secondary character that is somehow related to your main character (family member, colleague, protégé, etc.). The secondary character can take over for your main character if they go insane or die.
Stats can be determined by 1.) Following the instructions listed on pages 34-35 (Creating Your Investigator) of the Call of Cthulhu Rulebook 2.) Rolling 4d6 and subtracting the lowest die total, or 3.) Consulting with the Keeper to randomly assign character stats (be prepared to explain yourself – you’ll have to come up with a pretty convincing argument for your 85 year-old archaeology professor to have an 18 constitution and dexterity).
At the time of character creation, no skill should be over 75% (a skill score of 60% is considered the equivalent of being an expert or achieving the highest educational recognition [PhD, etc.] in a specific skill).
Unmitigated Success and Utter Failure
If an investigator rolls a d100 result that equals 1/10 of the skill maximum he/she needs to successfully make a skill check, then the investigator achieves an unmitigated success, and receives an additional point to that skill*.
Example: Clint Dilmore’s skill maximum on Natural History is 60%. He succeeds on a Natural History check with a roll of 6%. Clint Dilmore’s skill maximum on Natural History increases to 61%.
Conversely, if an investigator rolls a d100 result equal to 100%, then the investigator suffers an utter failure, and loses a point to that skill.
Example: Clint Dilmore’s skill maximum on Natural History is 60%. He fails a Natural History check with a roll of 100%. Clint Dimore’s skill maximum on Natural History decreases to 59%.
Does not include Climb, Dodge, Fist/Punch, Grapple, Handgun, Head Butt, Hide, Jump, Kick, Listen, Machine Gun, Martial Arts, Own Language, Rifle, Shotgun, Sneak, Spot Hidden, Submachine Gun
Investigators may carry up to three concealed small-weapons (revolver, knife, brass-knuckles, etc.) or one concealed large weapon (submachine gun, rifle). Additional weapons can be seen/noticed with a successful spot hidden roll.
