Red Hook Disaster
In the early hours of June 19, 1923, the three buildings that made up the Parker Place Apartment Complex in the Red Hook District collapsed suddenly and without warning, killing over one hundred residents, police, and federal agents. Police and federal agents raided the apartment complex in response to reports that several recently-kidnapped children were being held in one of the buildings. Only one known survivor, Detective Thomas F. Malone, was pulled from the wreckage.
