Campaign of the Month: November 2010
Cthulhu Supremus Est
Welcome to Cthulhu Supremus Est
On September 29, 1926, a charismatic cult leader sacrificed her life to ensure that alien entities would not bring about the end of the world. Evidence of her story, and the struggle to shield an unsuspecting world from horrors it cannot fathom, is about to be found.
A new chapter begins as three individuals unravel the mystery of what really happened to Ivy Morgan.
Here are the ongoing adventures of a group of Cthulhu investigators in the Chicago, Illinois suburbs.
Please note: We are not currently looking for additional players.

Congratulations on hotting the 200 fans mark!
Love the new background!!
Thanks, RoninRa!
I agree – that would be very useful. It would also be a nice way to network with other Keepers. I’ll try to get the ball rolling on that soon. I’ll send an invitation when it’s up-and-running.
Love the amount of work put into this campaign. Nibbed some of your House Rules and write-ups on the 1920s for my own campaign :)
Which got me thinking, what if we, the CoC keepers on OP, got together and created a campaign where we collect such information in one place? Since alot of us are sharing the same information already. Makes it easier for others to find information to put in their campaigns in the future.
So are the players:)
Looking forward to the revival of this campaign!
Thanks for making it a favorite, Juce734!
Love your page! The intro video looks fantastic and the art on these pages is perfect for your setting.
I’m trying not to squee all over the newspapers. They are great.
I thought you’d like that, Clare. I’ll be putting the newspapers up on the site – there’s a few Easter Eggs in there, if you know what you’re looking for.
Hey, Father Aleghiero got out of the hospital! Nice. I just noticed that.
Your videos keep getting better and better. The sound in the recent one is just great; I love the background noise of the film clicking, with it shutting off at the end.
Great work as always on the new intro video. The soundtrack gave me chills.
Yes, Frithhill, Ivy too. A tough moment, but at least she went out with a bang…
Oh Dear God. Not Ivy too ?
Frithhill, we feel the same way. A good barber is hard to find…
Thanks, Arsheesh! Glad to see that your back and contributing. We missed you!
I’m going to miss reading about Ray Brannigan. He was one suave cat.
Frank, it makes me happy to know that you are still hard at work at what is in fact one of my favorite sites here at the portal. I would have loved to be in this campaign!
Cheers,
-Arsheesh
Is it April yet? Cannot wait until the next hooorrrific tale…
killervp and StephenWollett:
I really appreciate it – especially from GMs who constantly wow me with their level of passion and creativity.
BTW – we just finished two game-changing sessions that will be outlined in several long-winded adventure logs. Keep your eyes on the stars!
when it comes to Lovecraftian horror his is the place to be. I love the site and the adventure logs keep me up at night. 8)
Continues to be one of the gold standards on the Portal! Great job!!
Great site Frank – Greetings from Elmhurst!
Elmhurst NY that is, it’s where I grew up! I live in Manhattan now that I have moved back to NYC but it’s good to know that Elmhurst is synonymous with gaming, wherever you go.
I really appreciate the compliment, killervp. I remember writing a similar comment to Arsheesh when I started at OP, and telling him I had a lot of work to do. Keep at it and find inspiration wherever you can – there’s a lot of great people on OP.
I absolutely love the whole stylized approach to the layout!! Your attention to detail is phenomenal, the newspaper clippings used in adventure logs, even the typefaces of documents suggesting the era of play. I have a lot of work to do!! Phenomenal job!!

A God…Rebuilt
signcontrast:
I really appreciate the compliment. I am aware of Arkham Horror and have been an avid player for years. Thanks for adding Cthulhu Supremus Est to your favorites!
This is the single best campaign site I’ve seen! Absolutely brilliant! Do you know the game “Arkham Horror?” There seem to be elements you’d appreciate and would get inspiration from.
Calibannnn:
With regards to the Ascendant membership, having the ability to host multiple campaigns is a great tool, as well as the additional map space. I haven’t had a chance to utilize the calendar yet, but I’m looking forward to it. And finally, if you plan on using a lot of images like I do, having the extra 10GB is very nice. It’s not too expensive, so I would highly recommend it.
As for 1920s pictures, I spent a lot of time doing Google image searches – try a lot of different search words (1920s portraits, 1920s flappers, 1920s New York City, etc.). Save any photos you find – you’ll never know when you’ll need them.
Hope that helps!
Likewise on your Supremus Est campaign! Fantastic graphics work there. I see you’ve got Father Alighiero in your world as well — hah! I haven’t upgraded yet — trying to see if this tool is going to work for our group. I’d like to know more about the upgrade features when you get a chance. By the way, I also see that we are both using head shots from the Photoplay archives for characters. Do you know of any other good places for 20s pics? I love the Photoplay ones, but they tend to be long on movie star-types and short on plain old people. I found a good archive of 20s police photos from Australia, so that helps. Anyhoo — I’ll be watching!
Thanks, Odhinn. It took some time, but it was worth it. Hopefully, I’ll get a chance to run a few new scenarios in the next few months.
Amazing home page. How much work had to go into that? Great Cthulhu campaign.
No problem, gaaran. It certainly makes updating your acknowledgments page easier…
I wanted to say thank you for introducing me to tineye.com on your acknowledgements page, it’s amazing. Also, another congrats! :)
Dyluth and Twiggyleaf,
Thanks – I appreciate the kinds words!
Frank,
I love the whole stylised approach to the layout, the newspaper clippings used in adventure logs, even the typefaces of documents suggesting the era of play. Video intro deserves a special mention, as does the “Concise Explanation of Cthulhu” – not only is this a total hoot but actually brilliantly informative of the essence of Lovecraft’s body of work. I like the House Rules, Mythos Points and it must be great to be a player in this campaign and receive such brilliantly planned handouts throughout the campaign! Bravissimo Dude!!!
Mark aka twiggyleaf
Frank you’ve done a great job with the houserules, the website and the campaign all and all. I’m a huge fan of the 1920’s pulp setting, and it looks like you’ve nailed it to the tee! Also I have to add that the newspaper clippings from different newspapers make reading your adventure logs all the more fun. Great job all around!
Thanks, MandalorianGrey! I’m glad you like the campaign.
Call of Cthulhu utilizes the Basic Role Playing rules and is really intuitive. The varying mechanics are all handled with d100 rolls. If you can expend a bit of time to research the era, it’s a great period to role play in.
My Wife and I REALLY like your campaign and your website. To me it seems like the roaring twenties would be a really hard platform to play (mechanics wise). But it seems like you have taken that in stride. Too cool.
Congrats Frank!!
Thanks, Arsheesh! Thanks for bringing the campaign to OP’s attention.
Congrats Frank and company for the well deserved featured slot this month!
Thanks, Clare. Could be…
I dig the new header. Is that guy on the right Brian’s new hobo character?
Wow, Frank. That video. Simply stunning work, pal! I’m super impressed. +5 Awesome Points. Spend them however you wish!
Thanks, gaaran. I’m really happy with how everything has turned out. OP is a really great site, and all of the great campaign pages I’ve visited (yours, included) have been very inspiring.
I agree with the others in saying you’ve done a bang up job. The handouts, adventure logs and all that are just awesome. You’ve got a totally engrossing experience here. Wish I could join your game, looks like a blast!
Thanks, Sandman. Oddly enough, I was just checking out your campaign site via the post on accessing a campaign site or profile from the forum. I really like what you’ve been doing as well.
Good job with your site Frank! I really like the way you designed your adventure log and wiki.
Cthulhu Fhtagn!
Thanks, arsheesh. All the work you’ve done on the Age of Legends site is top-notch – definitely something to aspire to.
Your site looks fantastic Frankie! This is one pulp yarn that I will definitely be keeping an eye on!
Thanks, monkeybut. The Newspaper Clipping Generator (http://www.fodey.com/generators/newspaper/snippet.asp) is the place to go if you want to create customer newspaper stories. Also, the HP Lovecraft Historical Society (http://www.cthulhulives.org/toc.html) has a ton of free props. The rest of my handouts were created using Microsoft Office and Google Image Finder.
I love the handouts! Very nice!
Sorry, Noelle, but we’re not looking for players right now. I’ll post something if we need additional players in the future.
How can I get on in this game, I would like to make a character.
Thanks – feel free to use whatever you’d like…
I really like your house rules. I will be writing some of those down for sure.
